EIA Reports U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY WASHINGTON DC 20585
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MAY 29, 2008
EIA Responds to Premature Public Release of Weekly Petroleum Data
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) is aware that petroleum data for the week ending May 23, scheduled for release at 10:30 AM   Eastern Time today, was available on the public EIA website before the scheduled release time. Initial indications suggest a malfunction in the system used by EIA to load the data while keeping it from public release prior to the scheduled release time. EIA is investigating this event and its causes.
EIA will make interim changes to its systems or procedures needed to avoid a recurrence before next week’s release. Details on changes will be available no later than Monday.
EIA will also engage with its stakeholders on longer term actions to permanently assure the fair and timely release of weekly data in an environment where increased demand for electronic access to petroleum data is presenting technological challenges.

Saginaw Bay Coastal Initiative Presentation
The Department of Environmental Quality, Department of Natural Resources, and the Partnership for the Saginaw Bay Watershed will be hosting a presentation on improving water quality through low impact development practices, on June 6, at 7 p.m. at the Bay City State Recreation Area Visitors Center.
C. Patrick Sellenraad, RLA, Senior Landscape Architect at Designscapes, Inc., Frankenmuth, will show examples of low impact development techniques used in projects built within the Saginaw Bay Watershed ranging from residential to large commercial developments. Attendees will learn how the landscape can be designed to minimize detention basins and filter both storm and waste water, while maintaining their professional appearance. This presentation will touch on the basics of bio-retention and bio-filtration: how does it work; how is it used; what does it look like.
Sellenraad’s presentation is the third in a series of discussions that will occur over the next few months on phosphorus impacts on Saginaw Bay and approaches to reduce these impacts, a priority issue identified through the Saginaw Bay Coastal Initiative.
Details of the Saginaw Bay Coastal Initiative and additional information are available online at http://www.michigan.gov/deq under “Issues to Watch.”

BrwnfldGrntLoan-Cadillac052908.pdf FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 29, 2008
Contact: Robert McCann (517) 241-7397
DEQ Grant Moves Redevelopment Project Forward in Cadillac
The Department of Environmental Quality announced today that an $849,275 Brownfield Redevelopment Grant and a $280,025 Brownfield Redevelopment Loan have been awarded to the city of Cadillac for the Chemical Bank Project to be located at the former Harris Milling site. The project is located at the southern gateway into Cadillac’s downtown area and is expected to have a dramatic impact on the revitalization of downtown Cadillac. Money from the DEQ’s Brownfield Redevelopment Grant and Loan Program will be used to perform environmental investigation and cleanup activities on the property, helping to facilitate the redevelopment.
“Michigan’s brownfield redevelopment program is one of the most successful tools we have to bring unused and contaminated properties back to life,” said DEQ Director Steven E. Chester. “Though funding for these types of projects is nearly exhausted, this award will provide a boost to Cadillac’s economy, while ensuring that the public health and environment are protected.”
Chemical Bank is planning to relocate its current downtown Cadillac operation to a new 5,000-square foot facility. The construction and expansion of the new bank building is expected to leverage $1 million in private investment and expand jobs at the new location.
The Brownfield Redevelopment Grant and Loan Program provides funding to local units of government for environmental response activities on brownfield properties where redevelopment is proposed. The program has been primarily funded by voter approved bonds passed in 1988 and 1998, however the last of the bond money will be exhausted by the end of 2008, necessitating that a new funding source be identified to ensure projects such as these can continue beyond this year.
