The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued a $10,000 civil penalty to William Scott Pitts for water quality violations at his property at 1283 East Jones Creek Road in Grants Pass. DEQ also has ordered Mr. Pitts to develop and implement an erosion control plan.

DEQ will host the first meeting of the Portland Air Toxics Solutions Advisory Committee. The purpose of the committee is to recommend strategies for a 10-year plan to reduce toxic pollutants in the air we breathe. The plan may consist of regulatory and voluntary measures to reduce the air toxics causing the most health risk in the Portland region including portions of Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties.

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is proposing to revise the effluent discharge limit for iron at the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) Tie Treatment facility located at 2453 Tie Plant Road in The Dalles, Oregon. The UPRR facility discharges treated wastewater to Three Mile Creek pursuant to a Wasco County Circuit Court of Oregon Consent Decree.

The Oregon Department of DEQ is proposing approval of a contaminated soil cleanup conducted at the former HR Jones veneer mill at 28925 Salmon river Highway in Grand Ronde. A wood-products manufacturing facility operated at the site from before 1948 until 2002. HR Jones Veneer owned the site from 1988 until 2002, when HR Jones sold the property to the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde.
