The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is proposing a fee increase on most application fees for the Onsite Septic System Program. DEQ regulates the siting, construction and inspection of septic systems statewide, and administers that work directly in 14 of 36 counties. The proposal would increase most application fees by 60 percent. The increase would cover only the 14 counties that DEQ administers directly, as well as site evaluation report reviews, denial reviews, and variances statewide. Fee structures in counties that administer the program themselves will not be affected. In addition, DEQ reviews and approves septic system products such as septic tanks, alternative treatment technologies and drainfield products. Those costs will also increase.
