*Staying in the green: Companies continue on EPA Performance Track *17 facilities in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas renew membership in program
(Dallas, Texas - August 11, 2008) Several companies from Environmental Protection Agency Region 6 will continue to increase their operating efficiency while also benefiting the environment through EPA’s National Environmental Performance Track.
A total of 17 facilities from Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas have renewed their membership in the “green leadership” program.
“Performance Track members work side-by-side with EPA to set challenging environmental performance goals and deliver real results that will preserve and protect our natural resources,” said EPA Regional Administrator Richard E. Greene. “These renewing members will continue to contribute to the significant environmental successes already achieved by the program.”
A complete list of the companies that renewed their membership in the program is provided below.
Performance Track supplements EPA’s existing regulatory activities by encouraging facilities with strong environmental records to work toward goals that are higher than legal requirements. The program’s 506 members include facilities from major corporations, small businesses, and the public sector in 49 states and Puerto Rico.
Renewing Performance Track members must set four new environmental performance goals (such as reduced energy use), have an independent review of their environmental management system, and be screened by EPA for sustained compliance with environmental laws.
Since its inception in 2000, Performance Track members have set more than 3,500 goals for environmental improvements, many of which will achieve environmental results in areas that are not covered by current regulation. Collectively, Performance Track members have saved enough energy to power 46,000 homes for one year, enough greenhouse gases to offset the emissions of 57,000 cars for one year, and conserved or restored more than 16,000 acres of land and habitat.
