DOE/EIA-0218(08-22) Coal Production for Week Ended: May 31, 2008
SUMMARY: As estimated by the Energy Information Administration from data on railroad car loadings, U.S. coal production totaled approximately 21.2 million short tons (mmst) during the week ended May 31, 2008. This production estimate is 3.4 percent lower than last week’s estimate, and 3.8 percent lower than the estimate reported for the comparable week in 2007. Production east of the Mississippi River totaled 9.2 mmst, which was 9.5 percent lower than last week’s estimate, and production west of the Mississippi River totaled 12.0 mmst, which was 1.8 percent higher than last week’s estimate.
The production estimate for the month of May 2008 is 97.6 mmst, which is about the same as the estimate reported for the comparable month in 2007.
