SUMMARY: As estimated by the Energy Information Administration from data on railroad car loadings, U.S. coal production totaled approximately 22.2 million short tons (mmst) during the week ended May 17, 2008. This production estimate is 3 percent lower than last week’s estimate, and about the same as the estimate reported for the comparable week in 2007. Production east of the Mississippi River totaled 9.7 mmst and production west of the Mississippi River totaled 12.5 mmst.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA), an independent statistical and analytical agency in the U. S. Department of Energy, released it’s Flash Estimate of “U.S. Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Energy Sources for the year 2007,” on May 20, 2008, in HTML format.
The flash estimate is based on data published in the Energy Information Administration’s Monthly Energy Review (April 2008). These estimates are considered to be preliminary. More detailed estimates of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from all sources, energy and non-energy, will appear in the report Emissions of Greenhouse Gases in the United States 2007, which is scheduled to be released in November 2008.
