OTHER RELEASES THIS WEEK:
Monthly Energy Review (7/24/2008) EIA’s primary report of recent energy statistics: total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; and data unit conversions. See What’s New in the Monthly Energy Review for a record of changes. Over the first half of 2008, the average number of rotary rigs in operation in the United States (onshore and offshore) was up 4 percent compared with the first half of 2007 and up 15 percent compared with the first half of 2006; the total number of wells drilled was up 7 percent and 20 percent, respectively; and the total footage drilled was down 3 percent and up 20 percent, respectively.

Renewable Energy Trend in Consumption and Electricity, 2006 (7/25/2008) EIA recently released the report, “Renewable Energy Trend in Consumption and Electricity, 2006,” with final data on renewable energy for 2006 and detailed sections on wind energy developments, concentrating solar power, biodiesel, and wave and tidal energy. http://www.eia.doe.gov/cneaf/solar.renewables/page/trends/rentrends.html
Quarterly Coal Report (QCR) - 1st Quarter 2008 (7/25/2008) Provides detailed quarterly coal data for January-March 2008 and aggregated quarterly historical coal data for 2002 through 1st Quarter 2008. Due to the termination of tax credits on December 31, 2007, all coal synfuel plants reported to EIA that they were permanently closed. Therefore, this report has blank entries for coal synfuel consumed or produced in the 1st Quarter of 2008. However, if plants had product on hand in this quarter, data on the disposition of that product is included in this report. After the 1st Quarter 2008, EIA will no longer collect or report new data on coal synfuel plants. Also, due to the unavailability of 1st Quarter 2008 electric power data, the report does not include corresponding quarter information on that sector. All data for 2007 and prior years are final, with the exception of electric power sector data. All data for 2008 are preliminary.
