Advice on Moving from Teaching to Private Sector
I have a MS in Earth Science and about 15 years teaching experience as an adjunct at a number of colleges in my area. The lack of advancement options in higher ed has been growingly frustrating and I’m looking at possibly jumping tracks. Hopefully without having to go back and do my degree over.
How does one go about getting into private sector environmental science/remediation/consulting? I’m seeing HAZWOPER certification on a lot of job postings, for example. Are there other standard certifications that are recommended? Is it considered inappropriate for faculty to attend career fairs?
Any insight on this kind of career shift would be appreciated.
