VA GHG, new initiatives
Governor Northam announced a series of actions to help Virginia address the impacts of carbon pollution from fossil fuels. While at the Global Global Climate Action Summit, Virginia committed to reducing carbon pollution from the transportation sector, combat ocean acidification and develop a framework for limiting methane leakage from natural gas infrastructure and landfills.
In addition to these three new actions, Governor Northam has taken a leadership role in climate-related initiatives in Virginia: working to reduce carbon pollution from large power plants by 30% over 10 years, helping electric utilities commit to $1B in solar and wind investments, investing $14M in Virginias electric vehicle charging infrastructure and permanently authorizing Virginias Coastal Zone Management Program.
