Forecast Discussion

*”Tuesday 04/17/2018 “*
Incoming background levels associated with departing continental haze may remain high for ozone to reach “Moderate” in parts of the Beaumont-Port Arthur, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Tyler-Longview areas, with highest concentrations in the afternoon and early evening. Incoming background levels should also remain high enough for ozone to reach “Moderate” in parts of the El Paso area as well.

Very strong afternoon winds are expected to generate and transport at times intense blowing dust through much of West Texas and the Panhandle and could raise the daily PM10 AQI to “Moderate” or possibly higher and the daily PM2.5 AQI to “Moderate” in parts of the Amarillo, El Paso, Lubbock, and Midland-Odessa areas.

Finally, slightly increased fine particulate background levels associated with departing continental haze could raise the daily PM2.5 AQI to the “Moderate” range in parts of the Beaumont-Port Arthur and Tyler-Longview areas and light smoke from seasonal fires in northern Mexico could raise the daily PM2.5 AQI to the “Moderate” range in parts of the Laredo area.

Elsewhere in the state, moderate to strong winds and/or lower incoming background levels should help keep air quality in the “Good” range in most spots.
