Forecast Discussion

*”Tuesday 05/08/2018 “*
*An Ozone Action is in effect today for the Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio areas.* Winds may be light enough and incoming background levels high enough for ozone to reach “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” on the north sides of the Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio areas and on the north and northeast side of the Houston area; “Moderate” or possibly higher on the northeast side of the Beaumont-Port Arthur area and in portions of the Waco-Killeen area; “Moderate” in parts of the Amarillo, Austin, Corpus Christi, El Paso, Lubbock, Midland-Odessa, and Tyler-Longview areas; and the upper end of the “Good” range in the Brownsville-McAllen area, with highest concentrations in the afternoon and early evening.

Elevated afternoon winds could generate and transport patchy blowing dust into portions of West Texas, possibly raising the daily PM10 and/or PM2.5 AQI to the lower end of the “Moderate” range in parts of the Midland-Odessa area and the upper end of the “Good” range in the El Paso area.

Elsewhere in the state, moderate winds and/or lower incoming background levels should help keep air quality in the “Good” range in most spots.
